United Way putting on a fashionable event

Second annual Compassion with Fashion’ show and luncheon to benefit 28 agencies

By SALLY SEXTON

For the second year in a row, the United Way of Parker County is hosting Compassion with Fashion.

“Compassion with Fashion is a fashion show and one of the ways to benefit our United Way campaign,” Oleta Parker, executive director, said. “The other thing is that is also benefits our 28 community investment partners and agencies funded through our campaign.”

The United Way of Parker County’s investment partners incude Child Protective Services, CASA, Crossroads Youth Ministry, Freedom House, Manna, Center of Hope, Campfire USA, Sawnview Therapeutic Riding, Headstart, Lena Pope Home, Cancer Care Services, Dental Health of Parker County, Kingdom Smiles, Star Council, Parker County Committee on Aging, Red Cross of Parker County, Texas Neighborhood Services, Child Study Center, Weatherford Little League Challenger Division and Liberty Lighthouse.

Compassion with Fashion, which includes lunch, a fashion show, silent auction and door prizes, is set for Feb. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Doss Heritage and Culture Center’s Heritage Hall.

“We have some really special merchants, who will be bringing their fashions and their own models,” Parker said.

Those fashion vendors include Teskey’s, Cowgirl Junkie, Rhema Boutique, Zinnia’s-2-Zebras, Leesha’s Closet, Saddlebags, Retrospection, Razzberry Lane, What A Girl Wants, Belk, L Boutique and Truly Trendy Boutique.

In the event’s first year, around $10,000 was raised for the United Way campaign, with only one designer participating.

“The room was full, with a lot of laughter and a lot of fun,” Parker said.

For this year’s function, tickets are currently on sale for $45 per person or $320 for a table of eight, and Parker said several tickets have already been sold.

“The sooner the better to buy, because we’re already selling tables and I feel sure we’re going to be sold out,” she said.

For tickets and reservations, visit www.uwpcfashionshow.com or contact the United Way office at 817-596-5986.

“One thing we really want to stress is that campaigns are down nationwide,” Parker said. “We’ve had to lower our goal this year, and we certainly aren’t where we were at this time last year.”

Those wishing to donate to the campaign outside of the event can do so on the United Way website, unitedwayofparkercounty.org, or by mailing to P.O. Box 1476, Weatherford, TX 76086.
