TOTS presents thriller ‘Deathtrap’ this month

Filled with plot twists and turns, Theatre Off The Square is pleased to present “Deathtrap” by Ira Levin and produced courtesy of Dramatists Play Service.

The thriller runs March 8th through the 24th. The play contains adult language and subject matter. The play is directed by Christian Sanders with Andrew Manning as assistant director.

In the play, Sidney Bruhl (Jon R. Kruse), a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a “dry” spell resulting in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break occurs when he receives a script from a student (Joey Eckstein) in the seminar he has been conducting, a thriller which he recognizes as a potential hit. Sidney’s plan, which he devises with his wife’s (Joyce Eckstein) help is to offer collaboration to the student, an idea which the younger man quickly accepts.

A psychic (Holly Kiehn) is staying next door and only seems to complicate the plot further. Thereafter suspense mounts steadily until the final, startling moments of the play. Scott Campbell rounds out the cast as Porter Milgrim, Bruhl’s lawyer. Audiences may remember the movie version, based on the play with Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve released in 1982.

Opening night audiences receive a sweet treat from a new local merchant, The Nook Bakery and Bistro in Hudson Oaks.

Performances are held on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12, $10 for students and seniors, and $9 for Sunday matinee. Reserve your tickets by calling 817-341-8687 or charge tickets at buy.ticketstothecity.com. The Star-Telegram’s Press Pass is accepted on Friday nights only. TOTS is located at 114 N. Denton in Weatherford.

Theatre Off The Square is an all-volunteer organization and relies on ticket sales and donations to support its productions. If you’d like to join in the fun, contact the theatre through the Box Office number above.
