Patrick McDonough

— Patrick McDonough passed away Monday, September 17th. Our beloved “Rockstar” fought the most courageous battle with cancer this past year and was lost so very unexpectedly due to complications of pneumonia, within two weeks of completing chemo.

He was the most devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, teacher, mentor and friend we could have ever hoped for. All who knew him will be forever blessed by the time we were able to spend with this special man. Every moment was such a gift. Patrick had a knack for making anyone and everyone feel at ease and never failed to share a quick smile or a word of encouragement. His wit, charm and unfailing positive attitude will always be held close to our hearts.

Patrick was born in Denver, CO, grew up in Los Alamos, NM, and earned degrees in Metallurgical Engineering and Physics from New Mexico Tech and the University of Utah. He moved to Texas in 1998 and taught at Weatherford College until his passing.

Patrick had a passion for teaching, inspiring his students, and a constant thirst for knowledge. He changed lives and made learning fun. He loved his students and was loved in return.

In lieu of flowers, and to support Patrick’s passion for learning, an education fund has been set up at Frost Bank for his precious 2 year old son.

If you would like to donate this fund, please make checks payable to Emerson McDonough and mail directly to:

Frost Bank

(attn: Alex Southall)

3801 Matlock Road

Arlington, Texas 76015

You can also stop by any Frost Bank location to donate or leave a donation at the reception.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Kimberly Phillips; son, Emerson McDonough; mother-in-law, Barbara Phillips (The Nonnie); sister and brother-in-law, Peggy McDonough and John Braly; sister Kathryn (Kitten) Haight; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel McDonough and Cheryl Black; nephews, Nathan Braly, Justin Green and Jared Haight.

We would like to thank our dear Dr. Fleischhauer and the wonderful team at Texas Oncology, and the oncology & ICU medical staff at AMH. No one could have fought harder or treated us with more love, kindness and care. Your efforts were nothing less than heroic and we will be forever grateful.

We’d also like to thank the amazing friends and family who have held us up with prayers, kind words, cards, dinners, play dates for Emerson, but most of all, just your love and constant support every step of this journey. We will never have adequate words to express our gratitude.
