Troy Byron Holcomb Jr.

Troy Byron Holcomb Jr., 74, died Monday, May 8, 2006.

Troy Byron Holcomb Jr. was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Bardwell, Texas. His childhood was spent in Emhouse, Texas, with his parents and two sisters and brother. For his senior year of high school, he moved to Corsicana, Texas, so that he could play baseball. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1949. He served in the United States Air Force form 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct, Korean Service, National Defense and U.N. Service medals for his time.

He met and began dating the former Patricia Ann Martin in 1956 and they married June 25, 1960. Their first son, Troy, was born March 5, 1964, and their youngest son, Tracy, was born Oct. 19, 1965. In 1967, they moved to Weatherford, Texas, and it was here they maintained their residence for the past 39 years.

Troy was a longtime employee of Employers General Insurance. He was a welding inspector and was based at PECO Company in Mineral Wells, Texas. He was a longtime faithful member of North Side Baptist Church, Weatherford, and served as a door-greeter for many years. While his sons were growing up, he was very active in their youth sports associations. He served as an assistant coach and he also spent many hours fixing and repairing baseball gloves for many of the players. He also, along with another dad, served as the “unofficial” groundskeeper of the new Weatherford High School baseball field when it was built in 1983.

The last several years, he struggled with Parkinson’s. But during this time, he thoroughly enjoyed his two grandchildren, Joshua and Hannah. He was an avid sports fan. His favorites were the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and the PGA. His other favorite teams were the Weatherford College Coyotes and the Weatherford Wranglers — he was a season ticket holder for both. He also loved to read. His favorite authors were Louis Lamour and Tom Clancy.

Without a doubt, he will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Thank you Heavenly Father for this precious man. As the Psalmist says, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Mae Holcomb; and his sister, Sunshine Mott.

Survivors include wife, Pat Holcomb of Weatherford; sons, Troy of Paradise and Tracy and wife, Debra, of Olton, Texas; grandson, Joshua; granddaughter, Hannah of Olton, Texas; sister, Wilma McCann and husband, Esco, of Corsicana; brother, Roy Don and wife, Christine, of Arlington, Texas; and brother-in-law, Billy Jack Mott of Burleson, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service is scheduled 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at North Side Baptist Church of Weatherford. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Weatherford. The family will receive guests 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at White’s Funeral Home, Weatherford.
