Walter Lawrence “Danny” Daniel Jr., 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Weatherford Health Care Center.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1921, in Brownwood, Texas, to Walter and Maggie Daniel. Danny grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from Lubbock Senior High School in 1939. He worked for Convair (predecessor to General Dynamics) in San Diego, Calif., as a flight engineer and flew 265 first flights on PBY5A’s. He transferred from San Diego to the Fort Worth plant where he was decorated as being a flight engineer on the inaugural flight of the famous B36 in 1946. He was chief of field service when he retired from General Dynamics in March 1978.
Danny married Louise Sargent on May 15, 1943, in Fort Worth. They were happily married for more than 65 years. Danny was a member of the Fort Worth Shriners. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and working outside in the barn or on his property in Weatherford. There wasn’t a tractor or a windmill he couldn’t repair.
Survivors include daughters, Dana Crabbs and Deborah Schreier and husband, Lenny; son, David Daniel and wife, Bridget; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise; his daughter, Dori Coffey; his son-in-law, Bill Crabbs; his brother, Bill; and his sisters, Dorothy and Marie.
