Leo Weldon “Butch” Tiberghien III

GUN BARREL CITY – Leo Weldon “Butch” Tiberghien III, 69, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at a Gun Barrel City hospital.

Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in White’s Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment will be in East Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Butch was born Nov. 18, 1943, in Yuma, Ariz., to the late Leo Weldon and Erma Neal Borden Tiberghien II. He was raised in Weatherford and attended Weatherford High School and the Allen Military Academy. Upon graduation, Butch joined the United States Air Force and served honorably until discharged on May 27, 1964. During his life, he was a certified helicopter mechanic, a heavy equipment operator and a long-distance truck driver. Butch was an avid fisherman and a Master Mason at the Cedar Creek Lake Masonic Lodge No. 1431 in Gun Barrel City.

Survivors include his brother, John Westhoff and wife, Sue Ann, of Weatherford; niece, Paige Westhoff, of Dallas; nephew, U.S. Navy Lt. Commander John Trenton Westhoff and wife, Amy, and their daughters, Corrine and Bryleigh, of St. Louis, Mo.; cousins, Nancy Borden O’Neal, Susie Borden Gandy and Eddie Borden, all of Fort Worth, Traci Layman Brown, of Lubbock, Terri Layman Short, of Austin, and Betty Thompson and Linda Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his father, U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Leo Weldon Tiberghien II, who was killed in action in World War II in 1944; his mother, Erma Neal Borden Westhoff, in 1961; his uncle and aunt, Jack and Edith Borden, of Weatherford; his uncle, C.B. Borden of Fort Worth; his aunt, Willie Thompson, of San Diego, Calif.; and his aunt, Sammye B. Layman, of Austin.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Butch’s memory to any Masonic Lodge of your choosing or to the Texas Pythian Home in Weatherford.
