Royce (DeWayne) Phillips

BENBROOK – Royce (DeWayne) Phillips, 56, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his home in Benbrook.

Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at North Side Baptist Church. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in East Greenwood Cemetery. Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

DeWayne was born in Lamesa on Feb. 26, 1956, to Bob and Elda Phillips. He attended his first nine years of school in Kermit and moved to Weatherford in 1971, where he graduated from Weatherford High School in 1974. He attended college in San Marcos.

DeWayne married Carol Smith in 1985. He worked as a self-employed bricklayer for 10 years until he joined the family business as a truck driver for 23 years. DeWayne was not only tall in stature, he was a giant of a man from all who loved him so dearly and he loved in return. Through all the physical disabilities he endured in the last few years, his mind never faltered. His talents were endless and amazing. He will truly be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carol Phillips, of Benbrook; daughter, Laura Beth Cole, of Benbrook; twin daughter and son, Amy and fiancé Robert Weist, of Fort Worth, and Eric Phillips and wife, Heather, of Benbrook; six grandchildren, Bobby and Harrison Cole, Faye Weist and Jake, Abbey and Gracie Phillips; parents, Bob and Elda Phillips, of Weatherford; brother, Rodney Phillips and wife, Dawne, of Weatherford; sister, Diane Lamb and husband, Greg, of Weatherford; all his aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

DeWayne was preceded in death by his four grandparents; a cousin; his sister-in-law; and a father-in-law.
