WEATHERFORD —
WEATHERFORD — Janie Toles, 101, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at her home in Weatherford.
Nellie Jane Toles was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Yantis, one of eight children to the late Elijah and Elizabeth Lucinda Romine. Her parents died when she was very young and her older brother, Willie, and his wife, Vera, raised her. In 1928, she married William Forest Toles, and they made their home in Freedom, in a log cabin that Forest built. After their first child was born, Forest entered the Church of God ministry and he began to build churches around Texas. The family moved to Weatherford in 1962 and after Forest’s untimely death in 1971, Janie began to bake pies for five restaurants in Weatherford, which resulted in lifetime friendships.
Janie never met a stranger and was considered to be a prayer warrior. When her dear friend and fellow prayer warrior, Lavena Snead, died, a part of Janie went with her.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Forest Toles; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Deal; her parents; and seven siblings.
Survivors include her children, William Ray Toles and wife, Billie M., of Wichita Falls, Donal Wayne Toles and wife, Sandy, of Lewisville, Rebekah Deal and husband, Robert, of Weatherford, and Vereda “Sam” Koch and husband, Terry, of Iowa Park; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; niece, Bobbie Herod of Lubbock; nephews, Dalton and Walter Lewis Romine, both of the Snyder area; and a host of loving church family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in White’s Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment will be at East Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
