Ernest Wright

Ernest Wright, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, surrounded by family in Fort Worth.

Ernest Henry Wright was born March 3, 1926, in Coleman County, the son of the late David M. and Dovie Harris Wright. Ernest was a very pleasant man and loved to witness to those he encountered. He began his career as a tile setter for Calloways, formerly West Texas Brick and Tile, advanced to ceramic tile manager and concluded it as a factory sales representative with Quamagra Tile in Fort Worth.

His gentle ways helped him make many lifelong friends, traveling throughout the southeastern part of the United States. Ernest was very active in The Gideons International and Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship. He also served as both deacon and elder at churches in Abilene and Weatherford, where he was a member of North Main Church of God for 25 years.

He married his sweetheart, the former Martha Ella Rister, in Albany, on Nov. 24, 1946.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Martha Wright, of Weatherford; daughters, Carolyn Cleveland and husband, Larry, of Abilene, Janet Curry and husband, Randy, of Weatherford, and Judy Andrews and husband, Wayne, of Silverthorne, Colo.; son, Ernie Wright and wife, Kathy, of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mavis Crane, of Abilene, and Estelle Wimberly and husband, Hollis, of Clyde; numerous nieces and nephews; many dear customers spread over 24 states; and a host of loving friends and church family.

Ernest was preceded in death by his twin sons, Jerry Lynn and Tommy Glenn in 1950; his parents; and six brothers and sisters.

Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at North Main Church of God, 803 N. Main St., Weatherford. Interment is 3 p.m. Tuesday in Rose Hill Cemetery, Merkel. Visitation was Monday at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the Wright family suggests contributions in Ernest’s memory to Universal Hospice, 1208 Country Club Lane, Fort Worth, TX 76112.
