Gerald Merwyn Burton

WEATHERFORD —  

Jerry passed away on Dec. 3, 2012, of complications of ALS. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born in Denver, Colo., April 7, 1937, to Merwyn and Edith Campbell Burton. He attended school at North High and served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He raised three children in Wheatridge and Arvada, Colo. Jerry worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, finishing his career in California in 1992. He retired to Medford and Myrtle Creek, Ore. In 1996, he moved to Mountain View, Ark., where he worked as a knife maker at the Ozark Folk Center. His other hobby was gardening and keeping flowers growing in his rock gardens. When he was diagnosed with ALS in April 2012 he moved to Weatherford, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Carletta Burton of Weatherford; daughters, Jeri Helene Wood of Durango, Colo., Theresa Stuhff and husband, Mark, of Mineral Wells, and Perri Lynn Long of Graford; sons, James Burton and wife, Deb, of Chicago, Ill., John Burton and wife, Erica, of Joshua Tree, Calif., and Don Branch and wife, Holly, of Weatherford; sisters, Elaine Burton of Colorado and Cathy Morrison of Oregon; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be sent to the ALS Foundation or Paralyzed Vets Foundation.
