Winfred Howard Scherer

WEATHERFORD — Winfred H. Scherer, 96, went to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Marie, Monday, July 2, 2012, surrounded by his family.

Winfred was born Aug. 25, 1915 in Weatherford, and lived on a farm with his family. He graduated from Weatherford High School in 1934 and served in the National Guard from 1936 to 1942. During this time he met and married Marie Berkley and remained married to her for 69 years, until her death in 2010. During their life, they purchased a farm in North Parker County where they lived, farmed, ran a dairy and ranched for 66 years. Winfred was a dedicated husband and father to his three daughters while teaching them his incredible work ethics.

Survivors include daughters, Faye Glover of Weatherford, Winnie Moser and husband, Dennis, of Dallas, Louise Curtice and husband, Jim, of Houston; grandchildren, Donna Glover, Tony West and David Glover; great-grandchildren, Jayme, Kelsey, Jourdan and Travis Glover; and one surviving sister, Lois Jackson of Houston and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 210 Garner Road, Weatherford. Interment will be in East Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.
