Barbara Jean Vieira

— Barbara Jean Vieira, 77, of Weatherford, formerly of Big Spring, affectionately known as grandma and Gigi, was granted her last wish on Aug. 27, 2012, to join her husband in their mansion in the skies.

Barbara was born to Grady and Mary Gardner on July 3, 1935, in Birmingham, Ala. She had a passion for cooking, traveling, gardening and playing Bingo. Barbara was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Women’s International Bowling Congress. She worked for the Bowl-a-Rama for many years. Her two favorite sports teams were the Atlanta Braves and her Dallas Cowboys. Barbara married Adelino “Rocky” Vieira on Jan. 4, 1953, in Pascagoula, Miss. They shared a love like no other for 54 years before he passed on Oct. 27, 2007.

In this union she was blessed with her children: Kathy Robertson and her husband George, Thresa Russell and her husband, Kelly, and Tony Vieira, all of Weatherford, Texas, Mark Vieira of Hueytown, Ala., Michelle Griffith and her husband, Don, of Greenfield, Ind., Monalisa Ake and her husband, Donny, of Portales, N.M., and Todd Gardner of Springtown, Texas; 15 grandchildren: Joshua and Rebekah Robertson, Stephanie Hunt, Jacob Paul Fincher, Michael and Joseph Vieira, Kimberly, James and Logan Vieira, Patrick and Christopher Walter, Haleigh Bird, Devin Carruth, Chris and Cody Russell; and 17 great grandchildren with twins on the way.

In addition to her children, she is survived by two brothers, Michael and Robert Gardner; and three sisters, Patricia Sprouse, Geri Smith and Debra Leber, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra Bowers and Susan Renda, and her grandchildren, Cherish Roxanne Walter, Matthew Vaughn Robertson and Wade Allen Gardner.

Graveside services were Thursday at Trinity Memorial Park with Pastor Ron Liles officiating.
