Elouise Shaw Kallina, 94, died Dec. 17, 2012.
A memorial service for celebrating Elouise’s life is 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry, San Antonio, TX 78212. She will be buried next to her beloved Frank at the Spring Creek Cemetery off the Cleburne-Weatherford Highway.
Eloise has slipped from her earthly shackles and into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was greeted by her beloved husband, Frank Cyril Kallina; her sons, Frank Jr. and James Leon; her parents, James Benjamin and Zuella Milburn Shaw; sister, Katherine Shaw Johnson; and brothers, James Benjamin Shaw Jr. and Thurman Albert Shaw; as well as many other beloved family and friends.
Born Aug. 22, 1918, Elouise grew up on a peach and vegetable farm in Parker County near Weatherford. She graduated from Weatherford High School and Texas State Teachers College (now Texas Woman’s University). While teaching Home Economics in Mission, Texas, she met the love of her life, Frank Cyril Kallina, who was working as a geologist for Standard Oil of New Jersey. Frank and Elouise married on Dec. 31, 1941. They added her 12-year-old younger brother, Albert, to their family after the death of her parents. He became like an older sibling for their three children, Kay, Jimmy and Janis.
The family moved around Texas and settled in San Antonio in order for son, James Leon (Jimmy), to attend Sunshine Cottage and Frank to open his own exploratory petroleum company. Elouise’s life revolved around care ministries that met the needs of her family, friends and especially Trinity Baptist Church. Her diligent instruction in sound-word recognition helped Jimmy learn to read lips and speak orally. She and Frank later invited into their home a deaf child who needed a place to live while, along with Jimmy, attending Sunshine Cottage. They also provided housing and financial support for a cousin while she attended Trinity University and then nursing school.
Elouise faithfully visited the sick, the homebound, people in nursing facilities and those who needed companionship. She took religious magazines, Sunday School quarterlies and small containers of food to those without family and who were living alone. On Oct. 15, 1994, she was ordained one of the first lady deacons at Trinity Baptist Church. Elouise was a humble servant of the Lord Jesus and was a wonderful role model for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she was exceedingly proud. Always ready to give God praise for her blessings, she personified the love of God in her kindness, generosity, acceptance, gentleness and amazing smile. Such joy came from the Spirit of God living in her even in her last days with all her physical and mental disabilities.
Elouise is survived by her daughters, Josephine Katherine (Kay) Ingram and Janis Elouise McCaffrey (Patrick Brice) of San Antonio; her grandchildren, Jennifer McCaffrey Pederson (Scott) of Sommerville, Julie Elizabeth Ingram, of New York City, Jason Leon Kallina (Kristi) of San Marcos, Patrick Casey McCaffrey (Alicia) of Little Elm, James Kallina Ingram (Kay) of College Station, Cameron Shaw Ingram of San Antonio, Shannon Laura Ingram Bourland (Layne Russell) of Austin, Melissa Sue Kallina of Austin, and Patrick Albert Kallina (Megan) of Omaha, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Casey Lynn and Ty Durham Pederson, Travis James Kallina, Toj, Payton and Trent Mora, Preston Blake and Garrett Donald McCaffrey, Zachary Tanner Johnson and Jordan Elizabeth Ingram, Elliot Josephine and Tristan James Ingram, Payton Layne and Presley Elizabeth Bourland and James Arthur Kallina; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins, all who knew her and felt her love and great generosity.
