Russell Joe Cassels, 71, of Weatherford, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, in a Fort Worth hospital.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Central Christian Church with interment in East Greenwood Cemetery. Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Born May 28, 1941, in Carlsbad, N.M., he was a resident of Weatherford for many years. Russ was a retired U.S. Marine, retired captain of the Weatherford Police Department, member of the Central Christian Church and Christian Motorcycle Association, and he loved to play golf and ride motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Cassels, of Weatherford; brothers, Gene Cassels and wife, Glenda, of Carlsbad, N.M.; Harold Cassels and wife, Marcie, of Weatherford, Jerry Cassels and wife, Cheryl, of Weatherford, and Scott Cassels and wife, Lorie, of Florence, Ala.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Weatherford Police Department Honor Guard, National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
