Eloise Sunderman Merrick

Eloise Sunderman Merrick, 96, died peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, with her husband of 70 years, Dr. John Merrick, by her side.

Memorial service is 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Grace First Presbyterian Church, 606 Mockingbird Lane, Weatherford, TX 76086. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at White’s Funeral Home in Weatherford.

Eloise was born in Ohio on March 18, 1916. She lived in Arlington, Va., during her young life. She attended Miami University of Ohio. In 1946, Eloise and John moved to Weatherford, where he opened his medical practice. For 66 years she was a member of Grace First Presbyterian Church, where she served as elder and deacon. Eloise enjoyed her “sewing group,” Girl Scouts, PTA, Presbyterian Women and United Way activities. In 1998 she was named Volunteer of the Year by the Parker County Committee on Aging for her many years of service to Meals on Wheels.

Eloise is survived by her husband, John Blake Merrick; children, Janice and Mac Smith, and Susan Bossert, of Pine, Ariz.; niece, Emily Carnesi and Gary Brandt, of Dripping Springs; grandchildren, Laura Merrick, of Golden, Colo., Melissa Merrick, of Anchorage, Alaska, Lesley and Matt Sanders, of Portland, Ore., Ellen and Schuyler Yost, of Dallas, Susan and Tim Barnes, of Fort Worth, and Josh and Lori Bossert, of Phoenix, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Ted and Blake Yost; and sisters, Carol Howell, of Williamsport, Md., and Shirley Kostik, of Arlington, Va.

She was preceded in death by her son, John Merrick Jr.
