Georgianne Simmons

Georgianne Simmons, 95, died peacefully Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Weatherford.

Service is 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, in White’s Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment will be in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation is 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Georgianne Simmons was born July 28, 1917, in Stamford, daughter of the late Slover and Julia Annette Barber Culwell. She married Phil R. Simmons Sr. in Oklahoma on Jan. 13, 1940, and made her career as a school teacher in Rochester, retiring after 29 dedicated years.

Georgianne was a member of Parker County Retired Teachers Association and Weatherford College Exes. She was also a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her three children, Becky Freeman and husband, Larry, of Kerrville, Phil R. Simmons Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Weatherford, and Beth Baker and husband, Ed, of Albuquerque, N.M.; nine grandchildren, Libby Freeman Lunsford, Rusty Freeman, Shelley Simmons Allen, Russell Simmons, Kate Simmons Luffy, Angela Shaffer Wickizer, Michael Calhoun, Brian Calhoun and Matt Calhoun; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Judy Moughon and Rebecca Hicks.

Georgianne was preceded in death by her husband, Phil R. Simmons Sr.; infant daughter, Martha Nell Simmons; her parents; and sisters, Elizabeth Phillips, Joy Nell Adams and Gloria Rutledge.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the Simmons family suggests contributions in Georgianne’s memory to Bethesda United Methodist Church Action Fund, 6657 FM Road 113 North, Weatherford, TX 76088; or a favorite charity.
