Joyce Laverne Lewelling

WEATHERFORD —

Joyce Laverne Lewelling, 78, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 15, 2012.

Joyce Laverne (Clark) Lewelling was born April 22, 1934, at Weatherford, Texas to Opal May (Revell) Clark and Edward Clark.  Joyce was a native of Weatherford and spent her entire life in the only town that she had known and loved.  She graduated from Weatherford High School in 1951.

Her husband of 59 years, Louis, had known her since early childhood.  They were neighbors and childhood sweethearts. Joyce made the trip to Fort Smith, Ark. to marry Louis on the 22nd of August 1953, while he was in the Army.

Joyce worked many places in Weatherford over the ensuing years, but her most enjoyable jobs were the 25 years she worked at the Weatherford Clinic for Drs. Whalen and Merrick, and the 10 years she worked at Stanley Grade School Library before retiring. Joyce was a people person and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her patients at the doctor’s office or the students at Stanley.

Louis and Joyce also ranched for over 50 years in the Spring Creek Community.

Joyce also dedicated an enormous amount of time to church activities such as a bible teacher, teacher recruitment coordinator, teacher workroom supplies, and as an adult sponsor for VBS trips.

She loved her home and was known for her hospitality.  An excellent cook, she delighted in trying new recipes and sharing them with others.

She had little or no temper and was a good friend and companion to all.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 59 years, Louis Lewelling; son, Tim Lewelling and his wife, Peggy of Weatherford; three grandchildren, Trey Clinton Lewelling and his wife, Kara, Alison Kate Lewelling and Braden Louis Lewelling, all of Weatherford; and two sisters, Larea Pippen of North Richland Hills and Lanette Bair of Weatherford.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
