John D. Anderson

— John D. Anderson, 91, passed away Sept. 17, 2012 at Arbor House Memory Care Facility.

John was born July 20, 1921 in Summerville, Ga., to Sam and Sallie Mae Hudgins Anderson. He and family moved from Georgia to Waco, Texas, in 1932, where they farmed and ran a small store. After graduating from La Vega High School on May 30, 1941, he enlisted in the Army Corps in preparation for World War II. John served bravely on B17s from the 428th bomb group over Europe, followed by many years serving his country, receiving numerous commendations. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. John was also a supporter of Eastern Star in several states and Guam. John was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a patriot, honest, giving and forgiving moral man.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sam J., Willis Jackson and James Robert Anderson; and sisters, Lucille Anderson, Frances Sedberry.

John is survived by his daughter, Ruth Dommert and her husband, David; granddaughter, Heather Hunt and her husband, Matt; great-granddaughter, Madeline Hunt; and sister, Betty Kimbrough.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, John’s memory may be honored with a gift to Alzheimer’s Research or Scottish Rite Hospitals.

The family would like to thank Beyond Faith Rehab and Mission Hospice for their warm compassionate care.
