WEATHERFORD – James Sneed, 84, a longtime resident of Weatherford, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, in Fort Worth surrounded by family.

Service is 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Weatherford. Interment will be in Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.

James Samuel Sneed was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Terrell, son of the late Roy Ester and Jewell Mae Causbie Sneed. James was a 1945 graduate of Weatherford High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1952, achieving the rank of second lieutenant prior to his honorable discharge. On June 16, 1950, in Weatherford, James married the love of his life, the former Jo Celea Bedford, and they began their life together. James was baptized and became a deacon at Harmony Baptist Church in 1956. He moved to First Baptist Church in 1969 where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and contributed to foreign missions. James also led the music and Bible study at Santa Fe Nursing and Rehab for many years and was an active supporter of Hungry Kids International.

James worked as a stone mason in the Weatherford area before working at Bell Helicopter, where he retired after 25 years. He enjoyed live gospel music, gardening and Texas Rangers baseball.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jo Celea Sneed, of Weatherford; children, Joye Celea Saladino and Daniel Roy Sneed; granddaughter, Nina Michelle Saladino; sister, Evalyn Hamilton; niece, Carol Snider; nephew, Mickey Snider; and a host of loving family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents; baby brother, Howard; and sister, Irene Snider.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the Sneed family suggests contributions in James’ memory to the Church Member Benevolent Fund at First Baptist Church of Weatherford; Meals on Wheels; or a charity of choice.
