Katie Marie Calhoun Stevens

DECATUR – Katie Marie Calhoun Stevens, 58, a teacher, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in Decatur.

Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at First Baptist Church with Revs. Ken May and Gerre Joiner and Stephen Wren officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Pallbearers are Donald Bryant, Larry Bryant, Jim Bryant, Dale Calhoun, Butch Calhoun, Brad Calhoun and Randy Bennett. She is now home with our Lord.

Katie was born July 11, 1954, in Gainesville, Texas, to Weldon Ben and Betty Evelyn (Bryant) Calhoun. She was united in marriage to Charles Louis Stevens on Dec. 28, 1976, in Greenwood, Texas. 

Katie was a graduate of Slidell High School and East Texas State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Education. She began her 32-year career in teaching at Montague ISD, Nocona ISD and Decatur ISD. Katie was a member of the Wise County Relay for Life, the Susan G. Komen of North Texas and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles Stevens; two daughters, Kristi Stevens, of Frisco, and Courtney Stevens, of Decatur; mother, Betty Calhoun, of Decatur; brother, James Calhoun and friend, Debra Lester, of Krum; and numerous other family members and a host of friends.
