The Cuban conversion

Dear Editor,

Fidel Castro and his communist buddies took over Cuba in 1959. After a half century of pain and misery for the Cuban people, the light has finally come on. The state payroll was cut nearly 6 percent and private sector jobs grew 23 percent in 2012.

Could it be that, without the Soviet Union to keep them propped up, reality set in and it finally occurred that they had run out of other people’s money? I was under the impression that the socialist communist slogan was forward. Why would leaders of such a marvelous ideology take their constituents back a half century? Could it be that it has occurred to them that socialism and communism are not working as they had promised? Just for the record it never has and never will.

I was just wondering where Andrea Mitchell and Michael Moore will go to get their top-notch medical care when Cuba goes completely free market. If this country continues on the path that we are on, we will suffer the same as the Cuban people did. Several generations will not be able to access the American dream. Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other system.

Do you think leaders such as Lenin or Stalin stood in lines with the peasants to get their food? They were not rich by today’s standards but, if there was a loaf of bread, and a peasant and the communist leader saw it at the same time, would you like to venture a guess who would end up with the loaf? If you think the socialist, communist ideology, is superior you might want to check out the number of people who have starved and been murdered by regimes that espoused the lie that they are for the poor.

To the illiterate, taxing the rich sounds like the ideal way to finance the government. The only problem with that idea is the government doesn’t have enough sense to know when to stop spending. Do you think Vice President Biden, Congress and a host of other federal employees should have a pay raise, when the national debt is over $16 trillion? Well evidently President Obama thought they did so he issued an executive order giving them a pay raise.

In my humble opinion it should have been a pay cut. Constitutional amendment XXVII – “No law varying the compensation for the services of the senators and representatives shall take effect, until an election of representatives shall have intervened.”

In Obama Land money falls from the sky like manna did for the children of Israel.

Do you remember the “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” sign that the personnel on the USS Abraham Lincoln displayed to greet President Bush when he went out to greet them?

All politics is local and personal! I hope that you and your family have a wonderful summer, filled with relationship building experiences and times of relaxation. As you do all the things that re-charge us for the next round at work and involvement in community and political activities, let’s reflect on the 2013 local elections for a moment.

You don’t often see “woe” used in an article. It’s a word that has fallen out of usage in our day. But it’s a word that ought to be understood and taken seriously.

As mercury pollution threatens our waterways and carbon pollution-fueled climate change worsens extreme weather, we need someone in Washington who knows how to get things done.

I just wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to the slobs, idiots and inconsiderate people who continually decorate the beautiful Texas landscape with their trash. I guess it’s really a form of art with beer bottles and cans, boxes, plastic drink containers, food packaging and just about anything else you can think of. It just doesn’t appeal to me. Thank you.

I had never really considered this possibility, but every one of the Three Little Pigs was almost certainly a guy. I know that assumption is not particularly popular from an equal opportunity standpoint, but the fact is fairly certain. How do I know? They all three had hair on their chinny chin chins.

A sight that always catches my eye when we’re out to eat is a mother and her young son eating alone. Carole sometimes has to touch my arm to regain my attention. Discretely, I observe the interaction between them and wonder what their story is.
