Dallas man jailed for retaliating against deputies

Staff Reports

A 47-year-old Dallas man remains in custody at the Parker County Justice Center after he was arrested on charges of retaliating against a public servant.

According to Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler, a truck driver called the sheriff’s office, saying a pedestrian was in the road of Interstate 20. Deputies responded around 9:30 p.m. Friday to the North Service Road near the freeway and Ellis Road.

A witness told deputies he saw a man walk into the eastbound lane, stumbling to the center stripe and fell in the road.

According to the report, the driver barely missed hitting the man who ended up face down in the right-of-way.

Deputies arrived and identified the man as John Kevin Kothmann who was “barefoot, highly intoxicated and belligerent,” according to the report.

Kothmann was immediately arrested for his own safety. While en route to jail, deputies reported he repeatedly threatened to kill them.

A press release stated deputies said Kothmann has a history of violent behavior which prompted their decision to charge him with the felony retaliation. He is being held on a $3,300 bond.

The following day, deputies responded to a disturbance call regarding a person with a weapon in the 100 block of Creekview Meadows in north Parker County.

A Springtown man was jailed on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon of a family member as a result of the call.

According to arresting deputies, Raymond Flores, 62, was initially involved in an altercation with a neighbor where he allegedly used “racial epithets.”

Flores reportedly displayed a knife to the victim when he proceeded to the porch of Flores home.

The affidavit stated Flores returned inside his house where he is accused of shoving his 2-year-old grandson into a wall and held another knife to the chest of his spouse.

Flores’ wife told deputies he threatened to kill her during the incident. The child was not apparently injured.

Deputies took Flores into custody and booked him in jail, where he is being held on a $7,500 bond.

Folwer said both cases would be presented to the grand jury for consideration.
