Commissioned musical work to honor Norma Harris

WEATHERFORD – On Sunday, Nov. 22, the congregation of Grace First Presbyterian Church will honor long-time member Norma Harris with a commissioned anthem to recognize her dedication to the church during her 66 years of membership. The Music Ministry under the direction of Marialice Parish will present an arrangement of the hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” one of Mrs. Harris’ favorite hymns. The commission is a gift from her family.

A native of Granbury, Mrs. Harris taught for 20 years at Mrs. Jordan’s Kindergarten and at Jarvis Elementary. She is an avid gardener and is known for the beautiful plants she grows.

The work is arranged for choir, organ and handbells. The commission was undertaken by Jack Noble White of Fort Worth. Mr. White is a native of Weatherford and a graduate of Texas Christian University. From 1977–1994, he was Director of the Texas Boys Choir. In 1978 he became the Producing Director of the world famous Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir, a position he still holds. Mr. White prepares choristers to join the Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir in annual presentations of The Littlest Wiseman, a nativity pageant given to the city of Fort Worth by the late Mr. And Mrs. F. Howard Walsh. Mr. White’s late mother, Jen Noble White, was a writer and Society Editor for the Weatherford Democrat until her death in 1962. His older brother, Jack Cody White, Jr., was an Associate Minister of Central Christian Church and taught chemistry at Weatherford High School. In 2002, Mr. White was honored as Distinguished Alumnus from Weatherford High School. He is an extensive composer with nearly 300 titles in print.

Grace First Presbyterian Church is located at 606 Mockingbird Lane. Morning worship begins at 10:45. The Rev. Charles Bruner is pastor of the church.
