WEATHERFORD — Kim Alvarado has been selected as a member of the 2009 Texas All-State Dance Team.

Kim is a senior at Weatherford High School and is currently the Blue Belles Captain. She has been in Belles for three years and has won numerous awards including “Most Outstanding Junior,” “Belle of the Week” and “Kick Club.” She also served as a Junior Lieutenant and is a member of the National Honor Society, “ESL” Club and was a freshman cheerleader.

While attending Hall Middle School, she was a Highstepper for two years and served as captain her eighth grade year.

As an All-State Dance Team member, Alvarado will attend the Texas Dance Educators Convention in Houston Jan. 8-11, with Belle Directors Nika Carter and Hayley Bassham.

She will participate in master dance classes, attend leadership seminars, rehearse the All-State Dance performance and perform with dancers from across the state.

Carter said approximately 165 Texas high school dancers will represent their teams and schools at this event, and that one of the highlights will be to meet and take classes from Jimmy Arguello, who was recently in the top 10 of the hit TV show, So You Think You Can Dance.

Kim is the daughter of Jose and Consuelo Alvarado. Her future plans include going to Texas Tech University and majoring in psychology.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
