POOLVILLE —
On Wednesday, the Poolville Cross Country Teams traveled to Hico to compete in the Bluebonnet Invitational Meet. It was a very tough meet with lots of hills and some loose gravel to run on. Also, to make it to the finish line of this race you have to run up a steep hill. Our athletes did very well as a group as eight kids received medals.
The JV girls started off the day with the first race. Despite running in her first race of the season, Tracy Johnson continued her dominance by easily winning 1st place. Katie Cumby, also running in her first meet this year, was the second Poolville runner to finish as she placed 42nd out of 102 runners. Kallie Dobbs, who is improving every week, finished close behind in 44th place. Anna Smith placed 49th, and Haley Simmons and Kelsey Fulton rounded out the team as they finished 80th and 81st respectively.
The Varsity Boys had the next race, and Alex Rodriguez was able to win his second medal of the year by finishing 7th overall out of 109 runners. Tim Burd finished 24th and Colby Bobbitt placed 44th. Freshmen Nathan Groce and Coy O’Boyle continued to run well as they finished 51st and 52nd to round out Poolville’s top 5 runners. Also running for the varsity team were: Austin Huffman-58th, Austin Bridges-63rd, and Clayton Royar-76th.
In the JV Boys Division, four Poolville runners received medals for placing in the top 20. Brady Miller was the first runner for Poolville to cross the finish line as he finished 9th overall. Oscar Suarez, Dylan Brawley and Daniel Lopez also grabbed medals by finishing 15th, 19th and 20th respectively. Other runners for the JV were: Hunter Melendez-27th, Jerride Ernesti-42nd, Gaston Johnson-53rd, Jonathan Cortez-56th and Dakota Bobbitt-60th.
The Junior High teams ran their first meet of the season and for the 7th graders it was their very first cross country meet. In the 7th Grade Girls Division, Ryan Jennings and Sidney Simmons finished 74th and 75th out of 169 girls. In 8th grade girls’ action, Jennifer Cortez was 32nd, Emory Lang-50th, and Kallie Cumby was 78th out of 110 runners. The JH Boys Division was also a big race as there were 149 total runners. Alan Tarango battled hard to receive a medal as he finished in 2nd place. Ruben Rodriguez also received a medal for his 12th place finish. Cameron Braun was close as he was 22nd overall, Holden Ernesti finished 26th, and Andrew Booth was 30th. Also running for the JH Boys were: Jacob Alvarado-34th, Landon Smith-39th, Garrett Mott-40th, Jose Rodriguez-43rd, Ethan Vick-45th, Bryce Scroggins-75th, William Shearman-76th, Dakota Cantu-79th, Dillon Ranspot-85th, Tristan Chambers-97th, Jeremy Hicks-107th, Logan King-113th, Cameron Fitzcharles-120th, Mathew Simmons-129th, Chris Tunnell-132nd, and Dawson Harris-139th.
The Poolville Teams will be back in Action again next Wednesday as they compete in the “Range Run” in Lipan.
