Aledo equestrian improves national youth ranking at local APHA event

Greg Webb

Meredith Milton received unanimous top scores from judges at the American Paint Horse Association’s Youth World Show competition, recently held at the Will Rodgers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth. The perfect marks earned Milton the Youth World Championship in the hunter hack event, a 2-jump class combined with rail class competition.

The APHA gathering attracted youth from all 50 states, as well as Canada, featuring competition in both English and Western riding events. Twelve-year-old Meredith won the event in the 13-and-under youth division, also netting a third-place finish in the working hunter competition, atop Skipa Stars Code. Milton’s barn name for her horse is “Chuck,” who she has been riding for two years.

With the win, Milton earned 30 points toward her overall ranking in English and Western riding, solidifying her top 20 spot nationally and putting her near the top of Zone 4 rankings. Meredith is currently ranked first in the nation in hunter hack and second nationally in hunter under saddle in the 13U division.

Milton trains at Lyon Performance Horses in Argyle. She is the daughter of Larry and Jeaneane Milton, of Aledo.
