GRANBURY — Whoever made out the Roos’ district schedule gave them quite an edge in the second half of district with five straight home games.
However, in the first half of district, those games are on the road and the Roos are 2-0 on that trip after a 7-6 win over Granbury Tuesday.
“Anytime you get a win on the road, it’s a good thing,” head coach Flint Wallace said. “Especially in a district as tough as this one.”
Weatherford fought back from a pair of deficits before having to hold off a furious rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Granbury took a 1-0 lead in the second and, after the Roos scored a run in the third, the Pirates regained the lead in the bottom of the third, 3-1.
Britton settled down in the middle innings while the offense picked away at the Pirates’ lead.
Weatherford scored a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and three in the sixth.
The hit that proved to be the game-winner was a two-run home run off the bat of Britton in the top of the sixth.
Andrew Gentle walked to start the inning and Joe Hernandez reached when the Granbury pitcher threw the ball into right field on a bunt attempt. Britton then stood in and hit his home run.
Granbury’s Nick Papason hit a three-run homer in the seventh.
