AZLE — The Trinity Christian Academy Eagles ran into a buzz saw when they traveled to Azle Friday to take on Azle Christian. Azle ran up a comfortable 42-8 halftime lead and held on to defeat the visiting Eagles 62-42.
Senior TCA quarterback Michael Sapp once again lead the Eagle attack completing 19 of 35 passes for 421 yards and five touchdowns on the evening.
However, the Eagles had difficulty holding on to the pigskin, turning the ball over 10 times, with three interceptions coupled with seven lost fumbles. Senior Kyle Richter continued to be Sapp's favorite target, hauling in six passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Howdy Pike added two touchdowns, hauling in a 54-yard strike from Sapp in the first quarter and returning a kick-off 61 yards for another score in the third. Jeff Dulin and Jonathan Klingenberg rounded out the Eagles scoring a touchdown reception each from Sapp.
Pike led the Eagles defense with 13 tackles, followed by Daniel Dooley with eight and Tad Sharp with five, including two quarterback sacks. He was joined by Dulin and Jared McNutt who each recorded a sack each. Dulin and Richter each intercepted passes for the Eagles defense.

Roos’ home opener hopes to open up win column
The wait for Weatherford’s Kangaroos home opener comes to an end Friday, and none too soon for all concerned. Coming into the third week of the season, or Week 2 by the football calendar, WHS football hopes the friendly confines of Roo Stadium will offer a showcase to the home crowd as they look to carve a notch in the win column at the expense of the Burleson Elks.
