With few exceptions, area prep teams face quite meaningful contests heading into the last week (or two) of the district season.
For the girls, Brock’s Friday finale on Senior Night is a formality, as the Lady Eagles (11-0) have already clinched the District 9-2A title. Springtown (6-2) is in a fight for District 6-3A’s second seed, likely decided Friday, as well, when the Lady Porcupines travel to Mineral Wells (6-2). Aledo’s (11-1) last two games will decide its position in the playoff brackets, taking on Granbury and Trimble Tech, with all three squads clustered at the top of the District 7-4A standings. Poolville (6-0) hopes to clinch the district title with another win over second-place Santo (5-1) on Friday. Finally the Lady Roos (7-5) hope to get some help from Martin and Lamar opponents while trying to win out in District 3-5A.
Three of its last four games are on home court, so the Aledo boys (5-5) will look to slip past Granbury to secure a playoff spot from District 7-4A. Another victory on Friday over Mineral Wells should all but guarantee Springtown (5-1) a second seed from District 6-3A. A seeding match may be in the works in District 9-2A, with Ponder and Brock tied at the top (8-1) with three contests remaining. Peaster (6-3) looks to be a lock for the remaining playoff slot, even with another date with Ponder looming. Poolville’s boys (5-0) have dominated District 11-1A thus far, with no reason to expect anything but an outright title down the stretch.
Of the 14 Parker County-resident teams, 11 have either clinched or are still vying for a postseason berth, which translates to nearly 80 percent — a really good hit rate.
