WEATHERFORD —

Aledo 67, Birdville 42

The Hawks offense brought its running game Thursday, in a District 5-4A match at Birdville ISD’s FA/AC, so it was a good thing Aledo remembered to pack its rushing attack as well, before leaving home. Birdville mustered a lot of yards and a lot of points, but fell short of the Bearcats’ production level, as Aledo won, 67-42.

Johnathan Gray and the Bearcats O-line carved through Birdville’s defense early and, thankfully, often as Gray provided 265 yards and the first seven Aledo touchdowns, and with Garrett Ellis’ six point-after kicks, nearly equaling the Hawks entire points output on the night.

With Springtown’s win over Byron Nelson, the Bearcats clinch yet another district title, and Gray added a couple (more) records to the mix. The ground effort marked his 44th career venture over 100 yards rushing, a state record. The previous record of 43 held for 16 years. Already the leader in the state for career touchdowns, Gray adds to the total with each week, at 168 after adding his seven on Thursday.

Aledo will close out its district season at home on Friday when they meet Brewer. Parent/Senior Night ceremonies will precede the game, set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Hamilton 45, Millsap 0

Friday night away from home was tough for the already-hurting Millsap Bulldogs, as they fell to District 4-2A, DII foe Hamilton . Millsap could not get anything going offensively, falling to its mascot namesake, 45-0. The Bulldogs fall to 3-6 overall, 1-4 in district play, and fall out of the hunt for a playoff spot.

Millsap hopes home field and Senior Night will provide enough inspiration this week as they close out the season hosting Hico at Bulldog Stadium. The formula worked for Springtown on Friday in a District 5-4A game, who beat second-place Birdville on Senior night, marking Pojo's first win in the 2011 season.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
