WEATHERFORD —
Fox Sports Southwest is offering live webcasts of this week’s FOX Sports Southwest 7-on-7 state tournament Division I quarterfinal, semifinal, consolation and championship games from Texas A&M on Saturday, July 16. The internet broadcasts will be carried on FoxSportsSouthwest.com and FoxSportsHouston.com.
The 14th annual tournament began on Thursday, July 14. Defending state champions Lake Travis (Division I) and Brownwood (Division II) are among the 128 teams qualified to compete in the three-day event that features the top passing high school teams in Texas.
Class 4A and 5A schools are grouped together in Division I, while Class 1A, 2A and 3A schools comprise Division II.
Saturday’s webcast coverage begins at 11:45 a.m. Nightly tournament recaps also will be televised on the networks’ Texas Rangers postgame shows.
The 7-on-7 football competition is designed as an off-season workout program for Texas High Schools to improve the quality of quarterbacks, receivers, secondary players and linebackers. Schools throughout the state organize teams and participate in summer leagues that culminate with the state championship tournament in July.
To comply with UIL rules, active coaches are prohibited from instructing players during games. Games are played in two 20-minute continuous halves on a 45-yard field and feature a one-hand touch for a tackle. All players except the center are eligible receivers.
