Bi-district match set for Lady Roos

Staff Report

The Weatherford girls’ varsity enters postseason play on Monday. The Lady Roos will face Southlake Carroll, the champs from District 4-5A. The teams will square off at Nolan Catholic High School, in Fort Worth, located at 4501 Bridge Street. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m.

 

Roos drop close contests to Arlington Martin

The Weatherford boys’ varsity and JV soccer teams took on Arlington Martin on this week, dropping tough decisions to the Warriors. The varsity Roos traveled to Martin on Tuesday, contesting a back and forth affair, with both squads creating opportunities to score. The Roos blinked first and Martin scored with five minutes left  in the match, holding on to take the 1-0 victory. The WHS boys put together a solid defensive effort and kept pressure on the Warrior’s keeper. Weatherford 1-2 in District 3-5A, and 4-6-1 overall. 

On Monday the junior varsity hosted Martin with the Roos controlling the majority of the ball movement in a defensive struggle. The Arlington squad got a break with five minutes left in the game, awarded a penalty kick. Martin scored on the kick and held on for the 1-0 win.  The WHS JV team is 1-3 on the year. Both teams host Arlington High on Friday.

 

Ranked Poolville boys clinch District 11-1A title

The Poolville Monarchs clinched the district championship on Tuesday, crushing Perrin with a 95-30 win.  Scoring 34 points in the first quarter alone, the Monarchs shot the ball really well, hitting 14 three-pointers on the night. Tanner Dobbs led the assault, with 19 points, followed by Alex Rodriguez, adding 15. Dylan Brawley and Coy O’Boyle also hit double digits, scoring 12 and 10, respectively.

Poolville improves to 28-6 on the season, with a spotless 7-0 District 11-1A mark. The win improves Poolville to a 28-6 overall record and a 7-0 district record. The Monarchs will look to go undefeated in district as they host the Chico Dragons on Friday, at 5 p.m. The Texas Association of Basketball Association and Texas Preps poll currently ranks the Poolville boys at No. 10 in the Division I poll for Class 1A.

 

Springtown girls slam Diamond Hill-Jarvis

Staff Report 

Brooklynn Dauenhauer lit up the scoreboard with 22 points on Tuesday, as the Lady Porcupines cruised to a 77-19 win over Fort Worth’s Diamond Hill-Jarvis. Pitching a shutout in the opening quarter, the SHS girls kept the pressure on, leading 38-4 at the half. Jordan Doremus and Becca Dauenhauer added 15 and 14 points to the Springtown offensive effort. The Pojo ladies finished district play with a 8-2 mark, and will begin postseason play next week.

 

Pojo romps past Eagles

Staff Report

The Springtown boys took at least a temporary 1-game lead over Mineral Wells on Tuesday, with a 77-47 romp over Diamond Hill. Caleb Brown and Cole Allen provided the offensive spark for the Porcupines, with each scoring 16 points. Dalton Scott added 13 for Pojo. 

Despite a heavy-scoring third period, Springtown extended the margin, as its lead was never threatened past the opening quarter, with a 16-point edge.

Mineral Wells fell to state-ranked Kennedale on Tuesday. Springtown meets Kennedale on Friday.

 

Aledo girls win rematch over Tech, District 7-4A

Staff Report

The Ladycats put early pressure on Trimble Tech in the district finale on Tuesday, bringing home a district title from the Fort Worth encounter with a 48-40 victory.

Justis Szczepanski-Beavers led Aledo with 18 points, with guard Alyssa Dry adding 14. Suffering its only district loss to Trimble Tech earlier in the season, the Ladycats led by  eight points at the half and held the margin.

Aledo enters postseason next week, playing the fourth seed from District 8-4A.

    Weatherford football fans showed up to sample the new fare being served up by head  coach Weldon Nelms and his coaching staff on Thursday, after the coaches have spent the past few weeks adding new ingredients to the Roo offensive and defensive schemes during spring drills. The practices culminated with the annual Blue-White Spring Game.

    In Game 2 of a Class 4A, Region I semifinal softball match in Odessa on Saturday, the Aledo Ladycats eliminated El Paso Chapin with a 12-6 win. The Ladycats bats heated up early in the match, scoring a pair of runs in the first frame and following up with another three in the seond.
