Area sports schedule — Week of February 18

—

Staff Report

This is it, sports fans — the single, busiest time of the year for area sports. Prep basketball playoffs (see schedules elsewhere in this page) are in full force with Weatherford College still in its conference schedule. Baseball and softball are hitting tournament stride. District soccer play begins its second round. Golf tourneys are beginning, while tennis matches are also in the mix. Powerlifting and wrestling are finishing up postseason, with track & field meets cranking up this week.

Whew!

With three games left in its North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference slate, the WC women have already clinched a playoff reservation  in Lubbock for the Region V tourney, and have a title match brewing with Collin County College on Saturday. At this writing, both have a single loss, with the Lady Cougs taking the first go-round against the Lady Coyotes last month.

There are baseball and softball tourneys galore, with Weatherford, Aledo, Brock and Peaster baseball, and Aledo softball, hosting their own particular extravaganzas. Fans should check school websites or contact the schools for the plethora of ‘TBDs’ from the tourneys.
