Area sports schedules — Week of February 20

WEATHERFORD —

The boys basketball state playoffs wait is over, as Tuesday marks bi-district dates for Aledo and Peaster, while Poolville and Brock await area round opponents to be decided. The Brock girls are the lone postseason entry left for Parker County schools, and meet Krum in the regional quarterfinal round.

While the basketball games are good to go, softball and baseball contests may have to wait for diamonds to dry with the wet weekend in store, but forecasts are encouraging, with sunny skies and mid-60s weather in the forecast by Tuesday and through the week.

That is good news for two area baseball tournaments, with Weatherord/Aledo/Azle combo hosting the Jerry Durant Classic and the return of the Brock/Peaster Tournament (or the Peaster/Brock Tournament, depending on which side of I-20 one resides).

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
