Athletes coming from most of the Class 2A, District 9 teams in their respective 2012 volleyball campaigns should find some solace in the now-established fact — they competed against the very best the state had to offer.
While the Brock Lady Eagles were sweeping through the district slate, Peaster established itself as the solid runner-up, losing its only two games in district play to Brock.
The result produced a 2012 all-district roster half composed of Lady Hounds and Lady Eagles, with Brock’s Amy Henard heading up the superlatives group, selected District 9-2A’s Most Valuable Player.
Henard represented a quarter of the “fearsome foursome” senior group that took the Lady Eagles to the state title, well illustrated by the First Team selections of Abbey Drillette, Braylee Flaska and Kyndall Magyar.
The foursome combined for just over 1,400 kills on the season and more than 1,100 digs. Prolific setters Flaska and Henard logged 1,388 assists on the year.
Peaster senior Kelsie Coplen received kudos as the district’s top offensive player, logging a hundred kills during district matches, and was joined in the elite selections by teammate Abby Long, who was named the Most Valuable Server.
Millsap’s Lauren Power was also recognized among the superlatives, named the top blocker of the year with Peaster’s Karissa Wolfenberger.
Leading the Lady Eagles to a 45-3 overall mark, Brock head coach Keith Guyon was again honored as the Coach of the Year.
