Lady Roos fourth-quarter dramatics fall short

Staff Report

With sole possession of third place on the line, the Weatherford Lady Roos endured a first half of frustration on Friday, in a District 3-5A contest against Arlington Martin. But the WHS girls turned fortunes around after the break, halving the deficit going into the final stanza.

The Lady Roos continued to close the gap, but could not top the hill down the stretch, losing to the Lady Warriors, 46-41.

Led by Abbye Shearmire and Lou Hawkins with 13 and 12 points respectively, on offense, Weatherford’s defense shined in the third quarter, contesting shots and scrambling for loose balls on the defensive end of the court.

With a 6-5 record, Weatherford is still in position to grab a fourth seed with Arlington High, Paschal and North Crowley left in district play. The WHS girls travel to Arlington on Tuesday.

Lady Porcupines bounce back to crush Castleberry

Staff Report

After another rough outing against district-leading Kennedale on Tuesday, Springtown returned to business as usual, topping the Castleberry Lady Lions in River Oaks on Friday.

Improving to 5-2 and in a dead heat for the runner-up slot with Mineral Wells, Pojo will host Lake Worth on Tuesday and likely will travel to Lady Rams land on Friday with a second seed for postseason on the line.

Mineral Wells, who trounced Lake Worth on Friday, has a tougher row to hoe, as they finish its district slate with Springtown and Kennedale.

Pojo’s Brooklyn Dauenhauer topped all scorers Friday, putting up 21 points, with Becca Dauenhauer following her sister with 16. Kendyl Dean and Jordan Doremus added 11 and 10 to the mix.

SHS struck quickly in the match, leading 43-11 at the close of the first half.
