State title games set at Cowboys Stadium venue

Nine championship games featured for fan fare

WEATHERFORD —

Staff Report

For the first time in several years, Parker County fans will not have a direct link of interest in the decisions to be handed down at the University Interscholastic League football state football championships, but there are a couple of teams of note in the final draw nonetheless.

From Millsap’s District 6-2A, Division II, Corsicana Mildred (13-1) has climbed the brackets to the pinnacle contest, and will take on undefeated East Bernard on the first day of the 3-day football extravaganza featured Thursday through Saturday at Cowboys Stadium.

The Class 2A, Division II title will be played at 8 p.m., the final game of the day.

Denton Guyer, who handed Aledo its first postseason loss in four years is also in the mix for a title shot. The Wildcats jumped off to an early advantage over the Bearcats in the area round and never gave up the lead. Led by talented quarterback Jerrod Heard, Guyer has since continued its success through postseason, edging past Tyler in the semifinal in a 57-53 high-scoring thriller.

Guyer (13-2) faces Georgetown (15-0) on Saturday, who has yet to experience a serious challenge in the brackets. The two will meet in the first game on Saturday, at Noon.
