WC fall rodeo season off to stellar start

WEATHERFORD —

At the kickoff to the 2012 fall rodeo season, Weatherford College got off to good beginnings, as 44 of the 49 Coyotes team members competed at the ENMU Rodeo in Portales, N.M., last weekend.

A bevy of Coyotes earned their way as top-ten finals qualifiers.

Landon Williams won fourth in team roping with partner and former WC CNFR qualifier Cadee Tew, who now attends Tarleton State University. Tew also won fifth in breakaway roping. Williams also took fifth in the finals and finished sixth over-all in tie-down roping.

Jared Parsonage, along with partner C.D. Wilcox (New Mexico JC) place in both rounds and finished fifth over-all in team roping. WC’s Paul Melvin and Brady Flinn teamed up for an eighth-place finish in team roping.

Kody Mahaffey ended up in tenth in the tie-down roping event.

In break-away roping, Kylee Hamilton took eighth, while Brooke Sully finished ninth.

Deven Riggins won sixth place in barrel racing and  Kailey Reaves earned a ninth spot in goat tying.

Former WC Students also did well at the Portales event. Clayton Shaw (TSU) won the tie-down roping  and former WC – CNFR qaulifiers Jayci Miller and Cadee Tew won third and sixth respectively in breakaway roping. Tew also won fourth in team roping, with WC’s Landon Williams.

As for team finishes — The WC men’s team placed ninth out of 16 teams, while the women came in eighth of a field of 16 teams.

Savannah Todd, Taighlor Dougherty, Riley Greene, J’Nae Mullen, Sarah Ingle, Lexi Heater, Greg Reger, and Tanner Headstream all had good performances representing Weatherford College, just missing the top 10 finals, but finishing in the top 15 of their respective events.

Weatherford College Rodeo is off to Alpine Thursday through Friday, traveling to compete in the rodeo at Sul Ross State University.
