Lady Roos top Paschal, vie for postseason berth on Tuesday

The Lady Roo hoopsters won their final District 3-5A road game Friday, defeating Paschal’s Lady Panthers, 52-32, and setting up a showdown for a playoff spot. With Paschal adjusting its defense to focus on Lou Hawkins, Weatherford’s Aidan Pool made her presence felt. Pool dominated in the paint with 16 points, with Hawkins also doing damage, with 15.

With Bowie beat Lamar handily and Martin upsetting North Crowley on Friday, the stage is set for the Lady Roos, tied with Lamar for fourth place, just a game behind Arlington Martin and North Crowley.  North Crowley’s Lady Panthers come to Weatherford on Tuesday, while Lamar faces Martin.

Aside from a very meaningful contest, Tuesday also features Senior Night, with five Lady Roos making their last appearance in regular-season play.

Bearcats, Ladycats  sweep Pirates

In a pair of dramatic endings at Aledo High School on Friday, both of the varsity Aledo basketball teams helped respective causes to take another step toward a District 7-4A championship (for the girls) and a postseason berth (for the boys).

The Ladycats used defense and a bevy of transition points to overcome a contentious Granbury team in a back-and-forth duel, coming out on top, 50-46.

An inbound pass and a defensive steal in the final 12 seconds of the game secured the win. The Ladycats meet Trimble tech, both at 12-1, to decide the title on Tuesday.

Without their leading scorer, the Aledo boys posted a 15-3 run in the final quarter to pass and beat the Pirates, 50-44, in the nightcap. Kyle Gromann and Carl Williams topped the Bearcats’ effort, scoring 17 and 16 points in the match.

At 6-5, with three games left on the district slate, Aledo will aspire to finish strong to nab a top-four slot, and a playoff spot.

Pojo splits fortunes at Mineral Wells

Both Springtown varsity teams traveled to Mineral Wells on Friday, hoping to secure more breathing room in its second-place district berths. The girls did, the boys did not.

Brooklyn Dauenhauer put up 26 points for Springtown, as the Lady Porcupines led from the second quarter to the finale by a 54-42 count.

Separated by a single point heading into the final period, the SHS boys were outpaced by the Rams in the final minutes as Springtown suffered a 52-46 beating. The loss drops Pojo into a second-place tie with the Rams, with three games remaining in the district slate.
