DENVER – Former Weatherford College basketball player Roderick Flemings, now with the University of Hawaii, has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Men’s Player of the Week for the week for Nov. 9-15. The honor marks the second career WAC Player of the Week award for Flemings.
The UH senior from Desoto led the Rainbow Warriors to a 2-0 record over the weekend, with wins over Southern Utah and McNeese State. Flemings tallied 23 points and 12 rebounds in UH’s 65-48 season-opening win over Southern Utah. He recorded his second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-65 victory over McNeese State, including two key baskets down the stretch to secure the win.
On the week, Flemings averaged 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He shot 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27). With the pair of wins, UH is off to its first 2-0 start since 2004. The wins also propelled UH into the Rainbow Classic championship.
The 6-foot-7 senior transferred to Hawaii after a stellar 2007-08 season at WC, where he earned first team All-America honors. He was named Player of the Year in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, averaging 20.6 points per game and 11.7 rebounds for the Coyotes.
