Lady Roos bats stay hot with 12-run effort over North Crowley

Staff Report

Weatherford varsity softball rolled over another District 3-5A opponent on Wednesday, topping the Lady Panthers, 12-2, in a run-rule shortened match at North Crowley.

After a modest start, with both teams putting a run across after two innings, the Weatherford offensive floodgates opened, scoring nine runs on seven hits in the top of the third. The biggest blast came on a 3-run triple off the bat of Ashley Erb. Abbey Cowan also hit for extra bases in the frame, adding a double to her 3-hit game.

The Panthers could only answer with a single run in the bottom half of the inning, while the WHS girls added a run each in the next two frames, putting an end to the contest in the fifth. Kelsey O’Brien took care of pitching duties for Weatherford.

Weatherford is back home on Tuesday, looking to keep its unblemished district slate intact when it hosts Arlington Lamar at 6 p.m.

Bulldogs comeback tops Boyd

Staff Report

Down a run and looking for its first score, Millsap saved its best for the last (inning) on Wednesday, in a District 9-2A contest at Boyd. After a misplayed sacrifice bunt netted the tying run, allowing Kyle Davis to score from second base, Millsap took advantage of a couple more Boyd errors, and held onto the lead in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-1 win.

Millsap starter John Bodine scattered six hits, struck out eight batters and pitched through a couple of Bulldogs defensive miscues for the complete-game win, which proved to be a pitchers duel for virtually the entire game.

Millsap evened its district record at 1-1 with the victory, and will continue its district slate on Tuesday, hosting Peaster at 7:30 p.m.

Bearcats blank Wyatt in district rout

Staff Report

Aledo right-hander Chris Reed pitched a shutout on Thursday, as the Bearcats hosted O.D. Wyatt in a District 7-4A baseball game and, thanks to the Aledo bats, only had to throw five innings to earn the 11-0 blanking. An explosion of seven runs in the bottom of the fourth spelled doom for the Chaps, who were unable to figure out Reed, who held Wyatt to a single hit and fanned nine in the 15-out appearance.

Luke Glover and Connor Duer matched offensive productivity in the afternoon game, with both tallying three runs batted in on two hits.

Aledo bounces back in the district win column after a loss to South Hills on Monday, and will carry its 2-1 mark into its next district contest against Western Hills on Tuesday. On Saturday, the Bearcats will host Arlington Bowie in a non-district contest, set to start at 1:30 p.m.
