WHS wrestlers top Richland, Boswell

Staff Report

With seven pins in the opening matches at the Ninth-grade Center on Tuesday, the Weatherford varsity boys followed up a 68-12 domination of Richland with a 55-27 win over Boswell.

 The Lady Roos began the competition by beating Boswell, 30-15.

Weatherford’s Dakota West and Tyler McDonald paced the boys’ team, pinning both opponents in their matches.

 

Lady Eagle Showcase set for Thursday start

Staff Report

A contingent of seven teams will converge at Brock High School on Thursday through Saturday as the Lady Eagles host their Showcase tourney. Pool play on Thursday and Friday features six matches per day, to set seeding for the final day of competition.

Liberty Christian, Parkway, Rider, Argyle, Aledo, Stephenville, THESA and Brock comprises the field. THESA and Aledo kick off the first game of pool play on Thursday, with a 10:30 a.m. tip.

 

Lady Roos edged by Keller in OT

Staff Report

With a 14-0 shutout in the fourth quarter on Tuesday at Keller, the Weatherford Lady Roos forced an overtime period, but fell short down the stretch, losing a non-district match against the Lady Indians, 58-55.

Lou Hawkins led the scoring effort for Weatherford, finishing with 16 points. Abbye Shearmire and Lexi Garner added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The WHS girls travel to White Settlement to play in the Brewer Invitational Thursday through Saturday.

Powell powers Aledo past Mansfield

Staff Report

Aledo senior Mallory Powell put up 23 points on Tuesday, helping the Ladycats to a 60-53 win over Mansfield’s Lady Tigers.

After Mansfield pulled to within a point entering the final period, the Ladycats pulled away to secure the win. 

 

Brock pulls away in overtime period

Staff Report

After battling to a 52-all tie in regulation play at Springtown on Tuesday, Brock’s Lady Eagles took control in OT, outscoring the Lady Porcupines, 17-5, to win the intra-county match, 69-57.

Springtown’s Brooklyn Dauenhauer and Brock’s Lexie Ducat dominated the scoring, with both recording 27 points each. Braylee Flaska added 14 points for the Lady Eagles, while Pojo’s Becca Dauenhauer scored 10.

Springtown heads for the Santo tourney this weekend, while Brock will host the Lady Eagles Showcase.

 

Aledo squeezes by Timber Creek

Staff Report

The Aledo cagers needed every bit of Taylor Johnson’s 30 points on Tuesday at Bearcat gymnasium, holding off a final period surge by Keller Timber Creek to edge the Falcons in a non-district match, 56-55.

 

Pojo handles Fort Worth’s North Side

Staff Report

Thomas Loving’s 17 points led a contingent of 10 scoring Porcupine players on Tuesday in Springtown, beating up on North Side in a non-district contest, 75-22.

    Weatherford High School head tennis coach Keeley McLarty will be hosting a meeting for the parents of incoming ninth-grade tennis players on Thursday. The hour-long gathering will begin at 6 p.m., and be held in the Outback classroom.

    The formidable representation by the Aledo contingent on the District 7-4A All-District baseball squad is marked by more than sheer numbers. Of the 13 players named to the roster, all but three are underclassmen, boding well for the district champs to remain at the top of the heap for years to come.
