Undefeated Nolan tops Kangaroos in

pre-district finale

Weatherford’s Tony Rodriguez led the Roos in scoring with 11 points on Friday, but did not get enough help to overcome a trio of double-digit scorers for Nolan, as the Roos fell to the Vikings, 61-41. Down just four points at the end of the opening period, the 15-0 Vikes poured on its offense through the middle quarters to put the game away.

Weatherford returns home Tuesday to begin its district schedule, hosting Arlington Bowie at 7:30 p.m.

Ten Aledo cagers contributed to the effort at Brewer High School on Friday, as the Bearcats pinned another ‘W’ on its pre-district schedule. Luke Bishop, Kyle Gromann and Alex Riner had eight points each, and 10 Aledo players scored in the 49-36 non-district tilt.

With a contentious non-district and tourney schedule behind them, Aledo will enter into District 7-4A competition on Tuesday, traveling to Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center to play O.D. Wyatt. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Ladycats move to 2-0 in 89-4 laugher

Aledo met little resistance on Friday, as they pitched a second-half shutout in a District 7-4A tilt at FW South Hills on Friday. Madison Mittie and Mallory Powell poured in 15 points each, leading a contingent of 10 Ladycats scorers, with Aledo crushing the Lady Scorpions, 89-4.

Kwameisha Darden was to only Hills player to find the hoop, scoring her four points in the first half. Aledo’s Kaylee Black and Bronte Frank scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Bryce Frank and Sarah Rogers chipping in eight apiece.

Aledo returns to its home court on Monday, continuing District 7-4A play against O.D. Wyatt with a 7:30 p.m. tip.

Lady Porcupines succumb to Lipan

Springtown’s high-scoring sisters, Becca and Brooklyn Dauenhauer, put up 16 each on Friday, but the points were not enough to keep pace with Lipan, as Pojo fell to the Lady Indians in a non-district varsity contest, 57-47.

Springtown’s next outing is set for Tuesday, hosting Muenster at 6 p.m.

Monarchs navigate through tourney, pre-district slates

The Poolville varsity boys have stayed busy, and mostly successful, of late. The Monarchs played twelve games in a 14-day span recently, compiling a 9-3 record during the stretch that included tournaments in Childress and Poolville.

After beating the Lipan Indians 74-49, Poolville made its annual trip to the Childress Tournament. Winning the tournament last year, Poolville settled for second in 2012, defeating 1A Paducah, 3A Iowa Park and 2A Childress before falling to the No. 2 nationally-ranked home school, Oklahoma City Storm. Between tourneys, the Monarchs traveled to Lingleville where they defeated the Cardinals, 59-43.

Poolville hosted its 10th Annual Mesquite Pit Classic, with perhaps its most contentious field, ever. The PHS boys topped Archer City (63-34) and Paradise (44-34) to open the tournament, and edged Prince of Peace, a 4A Tapps Catholic School out of Carrolton, 41-39. Alex Rodriguez led all scorers with 18 points in the effort

Class 3A Springtown bumped Poolville to the third-place final against the Class 2A, top-20 ranked Holliday Eagles. The Monarchs lost a tight contest, 55-49, despite 23 points from Tanner Dobbs. Rodriguez and Dobbs were selected to the All-Tournament team.

Finishing off their two-week marathon, the Monarchs traveled to Millsap on Tuesday. Despite a slow start and cold outside shooting, Poolville finally got it going as they defeated Millsap, 66-37, with balanced scoring from Dobbs and Jonathan Arbuckle, who had 13 points each. Colton Jack added 10 points. Arbuckle grabbed a season high 13 rebounds on the night.

At 11-4 on the season heading into Friday’s game, Poolville will host Jacksboro on Tuesday. Its District 11-1A, Div. I play will begin on Jan. 4, when it will host Chico.

Williams slugs way to APC’s Most Valuable
About the only negative you could conger from the season Roos Dustin Williams had was that the senior first baseman did not get to finish it. Helping Weatherford get back to yet another postseason, a clock-work occurrence for the Kangaroos after district baseball is done, Williams’ mishap in a late-district contest took him out of the lineup.

MLB squads draft four Coyotes, two Weatherford College exes
Like many talented players, Hunter Lockwood opted to play junior college baseball in hopes of being taken in the Major League Baseball draft. He transferred to Weatherford College after one season at the University of Oklahoma, where he tied for second in the Big 12 with 11 home runs, and was named to the All-Freshman Team.
