WEATHERFORD —

Roos fall to Martin

Staff Report

Weatherford succumbed to Arlington Martin’s score-by-committee approach in a District 3-5A contest on Friday in Arlington. Twelve Martin cagers scored in the game as the Kangaroos lost, 70-39, buried by a 25-4 second-quarter blitz by the Warriors.

WHS’ Jason Kuritz led the offensive effort, putting in 14 points on the night. Weatherford takes a break from their district schedule to play in the Aledo-hosted Moritz Auto Group Holiday Classic on Dec. 27-29.

Aledo beats Cougars, evens district mark

Staff Report

A 17-0 third-period run cemented the outcome for the Bearcats on Friday, as Aledo handily beat Western Hills, 52-31, and evened its District 7-4A record to 1-1. Taylor Johnson poured in 18 points to propel Aledo to the win, with nine points from Matt Dunn.

Aledo returns to action in tourney play Dec. 27-29, hosting the Moritz Auto Group Holiday Classic before resuming district play at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth on Jan. 4 against Southwest.

WHS offense held at bay by Lady Warriors

Staff Report

Down by a mere basket after a quarter of play on Friday, the Weatherford Lady Roos’ offense could not keep pace with Arlington Martin’s Emily Slagle, who lit up WHS with 32 points. The Lady Warriors increased the margin with a 20-4 second-quarter run and the Lady Roos could not erase the deficit in the District 3-5A match.

Weatherford’s next district contest will be after the first of the year, returning to Roo gymnasium on Jan. 4 to play the Arlington High Lady Colts. During the holiday break, the Lady Roos will play in the 50th-Annual M.T. Rice Tournament at Waco Midway High School.

Ladycats move to 4-0 district record

Staff Report

Aledo’s girl cagers took a 9-point lead into halftime and held service for the duration on Friday in Fort Worth, topping Western Hills’ Lady Cougars, 68-54. Despite a 30-point scoring night from Hills’ Crystal Jones, the Cougars were neutralized by three Aledo double-digit scorers in Mallory Powell (18), Kaylee Black (14) and Breann Forbes (13). Bryce Frank and Megan Wood scored nine each.

At 4-0 in 7-4A, the Ladycats take a break from district to play in Mansfield’s Rotary Invitational, Dec. 27-29.
