WEATHERFORD —
Former Weatherford High School baseball player Zach Britton made a special appearance at Thursday’s Weatherford ISD Board meeting following the official retiring of his No. 12 high school jersey earlier in the evening, at the Baseball Booster Club’s kick-off dinner.
Britton, who graduated from WHS in 2006, is the first baseball athlete from Weatherford to pitch in the major leagues. As a rookie pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles, Britton pitched 154.1 innings, collected an 11-11 record, and had a 4.61 ERA during his inaugural season.
The southpaw's scouting report indicates Zach does not rely heavily on striking out batters, but possesses a powerful sinker, forcing opposing batters to ground out more than average.
This year, Britton donated equipment and supplies from one of his sponsors to the WHS baseball program. He also donated an autographed Baltimore Orioles jersey for the Education Foundation Gala.
