Weatherford puts money back into 2012-13 budget

WEATHERFORD — An additional $463,000 will be going into city general fund coffers after council members amended the 2012-13 budget during Tuesday night’s council meeting.

Director of Management and Budget Chad Janicek told council members that much of the money is coming from updating the police department’s technology which was approved in September. Since the project was unable to be completed, the funds needed to be rolled over into the current fiscal year budget. Other monies came from equipment purchases, unfinished projects on the First Monday grounds and unspent fire department grant monies.

An additional $60,000 is going into both the solid waste fund and the general capital projects fund, while more than $127,000 will be added to the general debt service fund.

In other news, the council authorized an agreement with Veterinarian Resource Management Services for veterinary services for the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter.

City Manager Jerry Blaisdell said the agreement, valued at $82,000, is a continuation of a program the two entities have been working on for 12 years. VRMS is owned and operated by Dr. Kent Glenn, who along with another veterinarian will be at the shelter about 20 hours a week, according to the agreement. A $5,000 discretionary fund for special vet needs can be paid at Blaisdell’s discretion.

Council members also appointed Bob Glenn to the Municipal Utility Board and Darren Clark to the Planning and Zoning Board. Council members asked residents willing to serve on city boards to contact city hall immediately as there are a number of openings, particularly on the historic preservation committee.

Mayor Dennis Hooks also presented proclamations in honor of National Veterans Awareness Week Nov. 11 to Nov. 17. Representatives from American Legion Post 163 accepted the proclamation and reminded residents about the annual Veteran’s Day Parade scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9:45 a.m. The parade will begin at the Ninth Grade Center and head north on Main Street.

Hooks also read a proclamation designating Nov. 5 to Nov. 9 as Municipal Court Week.
