Armed man killed during drug sting

PARKER COUNTY — One man was pronounced dead in the 700 block of New Hope Road in far northeast Parker County around 3 p.m. Friday after an officer with the Weatherford-Parker County Special Crimes Unit reportedly fired at an armed man.

SCU investigators arrived at the location on a drug investigation and took two suspects into custody, Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said Friday evening, adding a third man ran off and was observed throwing several packets before going into a “defensive position” and pulling a firearm. An officer reportedly fired two shots at the armed man, according to Fowler.

Fowler said the suspect did not fire the weapon and a handgun was recovered at the scene.

The officers were in plain clothes with badges visible and identified themselves, according to Fowler.

A team of Texas Rangers were investigating the incident at his request, Fowler said.

Names and other information about the deceased man and officer involved was not released by deadline.

Leslie Lambert, 49, of Azle, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram, and possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces, by the Weatherford-Parker County Special Crimes Unit, according to Parker County Jail records.

Investigators had cordoned off an area across the street from a cemetary and worked the scene into the night and blocked traffic from the area.

Law enforcement agencies, including Azle, Reno and Weatherford police departments, as well as the Parker County District Attorney’s office and ESD No. 1, were on the scene Friday night.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
