Hunter uses GPS device to track down thief

FROM STAFF REPORTS

MILLSAP – A hunter went high-tech to hunt down his prey. Only his target wasn’t a deer, but a thief.

A North Richland Hills man had reported several items –  a hunting rifle, binoculars and a propane heater – stolen from a deer lease in the 1000 block of Southwest Front Street in Millsap.

According to Parker County sheriff’s officials, the man placed another weapon in the deer lease, only this time he baited it with a GPS tracking device. The weapon was also reportedly stolen, and investigators used the coordinates emitted from the device to track it down at a residence in the 600 block of Gholson Road in Millsap.

Authorities said not only did they find the weapon with the tracking device, they also found what was described as “numerous weapons reported in other theft incidents,” according to a PCSO release.

A juvenile male suspect was reportedly captured on video earlier that same day in an unrelated case. The suspect was identified as the same juvenile in the theft case.

Sheriff’s investigators located several additional weapons hidden within the residence of the juvenile. All weapons are believed to have been reported stolen within recent months in connection with several cases. Sheriff’s investigators believe all the weapons recovered within the residence cleared several active thefts of firearm cases.

The juvenile was detained and released into the custody of a North Texas juvenile detention facility.
