— In a tradition now 57 years old, the Rotary Club of Weatherford is preparing for its annual Pancake Supper.
Dubbed Pancake Palooza 2013, this year’s event will feature all the elements the Weatherford community has come to love: pancakes, bacon, a silent auction, a raffle for a Holland grill and the opportunity to support the Rotary Club in its mission to serve the community.
However, this year the event will have an added twist designed to allow the Rotary Club to help even more local students through scholarships, literacy initiatives, and school-readiness programs. That twist: corporate partners, and there is still time for local businesses to get involved.
On Tuesday, Feb. 19, Pancake Palooza 2013 will be held in the cafeteria at Weatherford High School from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At last year’s event, Rotarians served pancakes to more than 1,650 people, and the club is hoping that number might increase this year. According to this year’s event coordinator and the club’s president-elect Sheri Campbell-Husband, that presents a unique opportunity for local businesses to contribute to a worthy cause and get their brand in front of a lot of people.
“Each corporate partner for Pancake Palooza 2013 will receive recognition and benefits, dependent upon the amount or cash value of its donation,” Campbell-Husband said. “The event will also be advertised in multiple newspapers, on the web (including Facebook), on local radio and through promotional posters hung in businesses, schools and government offices throughout the community.”
Additionally, corporate partners will be given tickets to the Pancake Supper, with the number of those tickets depending upon the donor level.
Several local businesses have already signed on to support Pancake Palooza 2013 through monetary or in-kind donations. IHOP of Weatherford, Oak Farms Dairy and Mesquite Pit have all donated food and drinks for the supper.
Durant Auto Group signed on as an Emerald Partner; Walmart of Weatherford and Walmart of Hudson Oaks are both Ruby Partners; First National Bank-Weatherford is a Diamond Partner; and Progressive Waste Solutions and PlainsCapital Bank-Weatherford are Community Champion Partners. Other in-kind donations have come from Texas Butane, which donated the Holland grill that will be raffled off at the supper, and QuickPrint of Weatherford, which has donated a significant portion of the printing needed for the event.
Campbell-Husband offered thanks to all the businesses and individuals supporting Pancake Palooza and the programs it funds.
“Our primary mission with this event is to support education and literacy programs for area youth. That is what this annual fundraiser is all about. Thanks to our corporate partners, we anticipate that the 2013 Pancake Supper will allow us to help more students than we ever have before. Rotary is about ‘Service Above Self,’ and these partners have demonstrated a commitment to that as well.”
There is still time for other businesses and individuals to help make Pancake Palooza 2013 the best pancake supper yet.
The Rotary Club of Weatherford is seeking additional corporate partners and donations of silent auction items for the event. For information about how you can help, contact Campbell-Husband at 682-229-2400 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tickets for Pancake Palooza 2013 will be on sale beginning Jan. 9. They may be purchased from any member of the Rotary Club or at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce office. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Tickets for the Holland grill raffle are $1 each and may be purchased from Rotarians before or during the Feb. 19 supper.
