HUDSON OAKS — Despite the adverse weather for much of the first part of the year, work is progressing on a pair of major projects within the city.
Despite delays on construction due to funding, construction on the Splash Kingdom Wild West Water park is on schedule to be open May 28. Assistant City Administrator Patrick Lawler said that everything is on track right now. With much of the last few weeks being designated for dirt work, concrete work and buildings are expected to begin being poured later this week, weather permitting.
“We are planning on pouring concrete for the buildings and the parking lot by the end of the week,” Lawler said Wednesday. “We’re still shooting for a May 28 opening and we’ve done a lot of work in a very short period of time.”
Lawler said in an interview late last year that if the opening of the park had to be delayed until the first or second week of June, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Splash Kingdom officials at that time were still confident of making their May 28 deadline, however.
The nearly 10-acre facility with room for another 5 acres of expansion is being constructed to the west of the City Lights Theatre complex in the western part of the city.
The owners of the theatre, Schulman Partners, LLC are planning a four-screen expansion to the already 10-screen complex in Hudson Oaks as well as the construction of an eight-screen facility in Weatherford which should get under way this spring.
City officials have also been working on the U.S. 180 Middle Median project in an attempt to beautify the area and aid in the branding of the city itself. Work began late last year and is expected to be complete this spring. Lawler said the concrete work on about half of the medians has been completed with irrigation work being completed as well. Weather permitting planting work on many of the medians will begin in the next few weeks, Lawler said.
The project will also include in the installation of two large signs at the ends of the city to make identifying the city much easier. City officials are also working on a new logo to be used in helps of identifying the city. Approval was given at last month’s council meeting, and the logo is expected to be unveiled in the next few weeks.
